Michael Jordan, who is regarded by many as the GOAT – or best of all time – of basketball, has broken many records on the court, but he has set another significant milestone by giving a whopping $10 million to Make A Wish foundation.
Just before turning 60, he gave the biggest donation an individual has ever made to the organization in its 43-year history.

Michael Jeffrey Jordan, usually known by his initials MJ, is a former American professional basketball player and entrepreneur. He was born on February 17, 1963.
According to his bio on the National Basketball Association (NBA) website, Michael Jordan is unquestionably the best player to ever play the game. He competed in the NBA for fifteen seasons, earning six titles with the Chicago Bulls.
Jordan is the principal owner and chairman of 23XI Racing in the NASCAR Cup Series as well as the Charlotte Hornets of the NBA. In the 1980s and 1990s, he played a key role in the NBA’s global expansion and the global cultural iconization of basketball.
Through his donation, Jordan aims to encourage others to support Make A Wish, a nonprofit organization that grants children with life-threatening illnesses their “wishes” on their birthdays on February 17. Many kids want to experience things like visiting Disney World or meeting famous people like Jordan.
Jordan, who gained fame rapidly after joining the Chicago Bulls in 1984, granted his first wish in 1989 and has since granted hundreds more. According to the organization, he is still one of the celebs that wish recipients most frequently seek.

“Over the past 34 years, it has been an honor to work with Make A Wish and contribute to the happiness and happiness of so many children,” Jordan stated. “It has been extremely inspiring to see their resilience and bravery during such a trying moment in their lives. In order for every child to experience the wonder of having their wish fulfilled, I can’t think of a better birthday present than seeing people join me in supporting Make A Wish.”
One of the famous wishes he fulfilled in 2000 was for an 11-year-old. When Katie was given the news that she had a brain tumor, she had to sacrifice her dream of being a basketball player while she underwent treatment. Her enthusiasm for the sport was reignited after she met Jordan through Make A Wish.
Katie added, “Imagining [seeing Michael] helped me get through all of my treatments. It gave me something new to ponder and dream about.
She managed to not only survive her brain tumor but also spend five years working as a staff member at Make A Wish Mid-Atlantic.
Jordan’s donation will help grant future dreams through Make A Wish. Being a multi-year donor to charities like the Boys and Girls Club, of which he is a student, Jordan’s philanthropy frequently garners media attention.
According to regional healthcare provider Novant Health, Jordan, a native of North Carolina and owner of the Charlotte Hornets, donated $10 million in 2021 to open two new medical facilities in the state.
Jordan is one of Make A Wish’s top supporters, yet he does not hold the record despite having donated $10 million and had hundreds of wishes granted.
That’s John Cena, the actor and professional wrestler who, since 2002, has fulfilled 650 wishes in total and been honored by Guinness World Records. There have never been more than 400 wishes granted.
